When the scriptures were written, the Greek words translated “grace,” “mercy” and “forgiveness” were just common, everyday words. But over time, confusion about their meanings has made it more difficult to understand and appreciate God’s grace. The word grace, in particular, has taken on meanings that are far different from the way the word was used in the original text. Often the words grace, mercy and forgiveness are used interchangeably and grace is often confused with salvation. This misunderstanding has kept many God-fearing people from becoming true Christians and many Christians from feeling the favor of God.
1. To clear up misconceptions about grace, mercy and forgiveness;
2. To build faith in God’s goodness and favor;
3. To better understand the nature of God; and
4. To lay a foundation for future study of other first principles of Christianity.
